The Spooning Position

How to Do

In the Spooning sex position:

• The penetrative partner lies on their side, with their knees bent. The receptive partner lies on their side, with their back pressed against the penetrative partner's front. The receptive partner parts their legs slightly, with their hips tilted to one side, and their knees bent.
  
  
• The two partners line up to align the penetrative partner's penis or dildo with the receptive partner's vagina or anus, and the penis or dildo is then guided into the orifice from the rear.

The penetrative partner is often called the big spoon, and the receptive partner the little spoon, especially in relationships between gay men.

This position allows for a great deal of physical intimacy, as the full-body contact allows both partners to cuddle and caress one another. Low-intensity sex can go on for a long time in this position. However, the lower intensity from this position may not satisfy.

Furthermore, penetration is quite shallow, and clitoral or anal pressure is not very intense without manual stimulation. In addition, there is little visual stimulation for either party, as they are not facing one another and cannot see each other's bodies clearly.

The spoons position is a popular sexual position and intimate cuddling technique. It may be used for vaginal or anal penetration. The name derives from the way that two spoons may be positioned side by side, with their bowls aligned.

To get into the spooning position, the receiver lies on their side with their partner entering from behind. This is an exceptionally good position to use during pregnancy because the woman's stomach can lie flat on the bed and it is very restful for her in the last few months of pregnancy.

The couple lie on their sides with the man cuddling into the woman's back as she draws her knees up towards her stomach. He then tucks into her and penetrates her.

Penetration can be very good, especially if the woman angles her body down towards her feet and the man can, in a limited way, make thrusting movements. He can reach around and stimulate her clitoris or she can open her legs and do so herself. He can also reach round and caress her breasts and stomach and, at the same time, kiss her neck and back. The area of skin contact is extensive and this can be very romantic and sensuous.

It is a very pleasant position for the couple who like to fall asleep after sex - in fact, it is quite possible to go to sleep with the penis still in the vagina.

Advantages of the Spooning position

Disadvantages of the Spooning position

• This position does not allow for a lot of leverage for thrusting and both partners may feel like they have less movement and freedom.
